Liked the art work. Love the conceit of the story. Not your everyday slasher, something a little bit more. Manning and Rin are decent characters and worth getting to know. The bad guys are just wickedly awesome.

What's not to like!!
Since I've been a fan of this particular comic since I was a kid/teen, I was thrilled to find it as a kindle...
The Story is well done, and the artwork is amazing. It all flows together smoothly and switches between pen and pencil drawings. Both media's looks top quality and fit perfectly together, the pen is the main media used to tell most of the story, where as the pencil is a far more realistically/life filled image put at important/strategic locations to help add to the entire experience. I find it helps brings the entire story to life and flow really well, I feel amazed at how lively this touch makes the story for me at the very least. It just feels too right.

The problem and the reason for the two stars missing is entirely on the books condition... It was supposedly in top not quality (forgot the name for it), but instead it had some messed up corners and about 5-15 pages in the center of the book work folded and creased in the book sloppily... Disappointing...

Blade of the Immortal seems to start out as a simple story of a warrior who can not die. We seem to start after Manji has gained immortality, without the reader getting any real knowledge of how he got it or why. He follow him as he gets a job helping a girl get revenge. The fact is he is kind of self centered, selfish and, sometimes, a jerk. How did he get the gift of being immortal? And why does he wish to end his life? Is it really so much of a curse? A blessing? Only time will tell.
This remind you of a western with John Wayne
and a young girl, but with much more energy , better story line, and not afraid to true to its culture. Excellent Book
Manji cannot die, he is cursed with the bloodworms, he first has to make ammends by killing a thousand evil guys to find peace. Rin's family was killed by an ambitious swordman who wants to destroy all fencing schools in Japan as proof that his style is the best. Rin wants vengeance and Manji helps her. Sounds easy, right? Well i thought the same at first, but as i proceeded reading this wonderful story i found that things are not as easy as they seem. Mr Samura weaves a great story about the real nature of evil; eventhought this manga would have been great with just Manji killing villains left and right we get to see glimpses of real personality development since the first volume. I give it four stars because after reading the other four books i really could not give it five, it deserves five, but then Dreamsong and On Silent Wings should got six. And i already have reviewed On Silent Wings. There is just a small detail that i noticed wrong with the printing, on several ocasions the text makes reference to the glossary which is never seen. On the next books the error is corrected so i don't complain. This is the kind of book that makes reading manga worthwhile.
Gripping, from the get go, it is gripping.
So many flavors, so many point plots are alluded in the first 5 pages of the story. To even give hint to the eccentricities of the plots and subplot risks taking away form the pure enjoyment value of this manga.

Should an immortal samurai have a conscience? The concept of "immortality is not invincibility" plays so well in this first book. Along with the struggle between Western Ideals and Japanese tradition, this broadens the flavor of concepts in a cultural mix.
